Do You Write Poetry?

Well then you may be interested in a site that I stumbled upon. It's called Original Poetry and it is a site that lets you upload your poetry for others to see and critique. You have to join the site but it doesn't cost anything for you to join.

I belong to this site but I haven't added any poetry yet.

Is Your Band Interested In Winning A Recording Contract?

Is your band interested in winning a recording contract?

I have had a little experience with writing songs and composing music and I know how hard it is to break into the business so here is some interesting information that I found online.

It seems that there is a recording studio that has a Myspace page and they are asking bands to submit their work. It looks as though it is some kind of music competition or music contest of some sort. But if you or your band is interested you can visit their myspace page to find out more about it.

There is also a more specific link that is supposed to go directly to the site with more information but when I clicked on it I couldn't bring up the site - so that is why I'm including the Myspace link as well!

Good Luck!

If you are a songwriter and are looking for grants for songwriters you can click on this link and on this website as well under "Strange But True". Here is an excerpt:

"A band received a $3,000 grant to help promote themselves!

A singer/songwriter who has also received subsidized financial helphas said, "“I wrote the application for my first grant when I was 18 with a pen on loose-leaf paper and attaching pictures with Scotch Tape. I haven’t gotten a whole lot of grants since, but all the money I was fortunate to receive certainly helped along the way.
"

So there even seems to be grant money for songwriters too!

Woman Named Britain's First Female Poet Laureate!

I saw this article online and thought that it would be great to post it here! I'm always glad to hear good news when it involves those that write - especially when they are female like me!

Of course I'm not from Britain nor have I ever been there but I would like to go there and visit some time!

I would just like to congratulate this woman and you can read more about this by clicking here.

A Writing Contest

I found a writing contest on Renderosity.com which looks like a place for artists of all kinds. The name of the contest is "Alone In The Dark" and you can find out more about it by clicking here. I believe that you have to be a member to enter but becoming a member is free and the site looks very interesting. I should also warn you that this particular writing contest requires that you submit an image as well. I didn't see any entries yet so I can't tell you exactly what kind of image you have to submit but I'm guessing that it has to be some sort of 2D or 3D image that you create yourself.

So if you're looking for a creative outlet for your writing, just click the link above and check it out!

American Pie Band Camp

I mention this movie because it is a great example of a writer using their personal experiences in their writing. (It's also a great example of a writer being able to earn a lot of money from their writing!).

Paul Weitz and Chris Weitz are the writers for this movie (and the others in the series). Christopher Weitz is an Academy Award nominated producer, writer and director!

Another encouraging bit of news for us writers is the fact that Chris Weitz approached a major movie studio with a 40 page story treatment for a book and got hired as the writer of the movie!

You can find out more about the storyline for this video by clicking here

Here is a link to a YouTube video that is supposed to be showing a trailer for the American Pie Band Camp movie.

An interesting note! - Ginger Lynn who played a nurse in the movie was a very famous porn actress back in the 1980's.

Originally I have my websites on AOL but they have since discontinued member pages

Here Is A Link To An Interesting Article About How To Start Your Freelance Writing Career

I found a very interesting article about how one could start their own freelance writing career. It really doesn't sound like my cup of tea but it may be something that other writers might be interested in.
